Policies

What is discussed during therapy is kept completely confidential. No contents of the therapy sessions, whether verbal or written, will be shared with another party without your written consent. There are exceptions to this rule however, and they include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • If you disclose a plan that presents imminent danger to yourself or others;
  • If you disclose, or if there is a suspicion of, child abuse or neglect;
  • If a judge sends a signed, valid court order requesting information regarding your treatment, your files must be released;
  • If you disclose, or it is suspected, a vulnerable adult is being abused or neglected;
  • If you intend to drive a motor vehicle while intoxicated by alcohol or drugs

Please note further that insurance companies and other third-party payers may be given information they request regarding services to you as the client. The type of information that may be requested includes types of services, dates of services, treatment plans, description of impairment, progress of therapy, case notes and summaries, etc. Your verbal and written permission will be requested.

I am committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), which sets out how private sector organizations may collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect personal information. I only collect personal information that is necessary for providing counselling services, communicating with you, managing appointments, and maintaining appropriate clinical and administrative records. I use reasonable safeguards to protect your information from unauthorized access, disclosure, or misuse, and I retain personal information only as long as needed for clinical, legal, and business purposes.

You have the right to request access to your personal information and to ask for corrections if information is inaccurate or incomplete. If you have questions or concerns about how your personal information is handled, please contact me directly so I can address them in a timely and respectful way.

Your appointment time is reserved just for you. A late cancellation or missed visit leaves a hole in the day that could have been filled by another client. As such, the requirement is 24 hours notice for any cancellations or changes to your appointment. Clients who provide less than 24 hours notice, or miss their appointment, will be charged a cancellation fee — 50% of the standard rate for late cancellations and 100% for no-shows.

The therapeutic relationship we build together is unique and plays a central role in supporting growth, healing, and meaningful change. It is a professional relationship designed to provide you with a safe, supportive space to explore and navigate life's challenges. As a Registered Clinical Counsellor, I follow the ethical guidelines of the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors, including those related to social media use. For this reason, I do not accept friend or connection requests from current or former clients on personal social media platforms. If you need to reach me between sessions, please contact me directly by email or text rather than through social media, as this helps protect your privacy and confidentiality.
