My Approach
Getting to know the person across from you matters. Here's a little about who I am and how I work.
I grew up in circumstances that gave me a deep understanding of trauma, loss, and grief. When I lost my mother to cancer just three weeks before the birth of my first child, I sought support from a psychologist. In that space, I experienced the transformative power of therapy for the first time and knew I wanted to offer that same support to others. This led me to pursue my Master's degree in psychology.
While completing my studies, I founded a non-profit supporting orphans and vulnerable children in a shanty town in Cape Town, South Africa. More than 20 years later, the project is still thriving. This experience shaped my understanding of poverty, collaboration, and the importance of cultural sensitivity and authenticity.
I registered as a Psychologist in South Africa in 2012 and worked in private practice before moving to Canada in 2021. Now based in Chilliwack, BC, I continue to see clients both locally and virtually, including those in South Africa. As a Registered Clinical Counsellor, I work with adults, families, and couples.
Across more than fourteen years of practice in two countries, one truth remains: people are remarkably resilient when given a safe space to be honest about their pain.
As a mindfulness-based practitioner, I believe healing begins with awareness—gently noticing what is happening beneath the surface and meeting it with compassion rather than judgment. From this place of awareness, we can approach our experiences with patience, curiosity, and trust in the unfolding process, letting go of what we need to and accepting what we cannot change.
My approach integrates mindfulness principles with evidence-based therapeutic models, meeting you where you are and moving at a pace that feels safe. I value self-compassion and gentleness, as well as the courage and vulnerability it takes to remain open to growth, even in ways you may not have imagined possible.
The foundation of meaningful therapy is the relationship we build together. I prioritize creating a space where you feel safe, respected, and at ease—where you can speak openly and be met with genuine understanding. My intention is for you to feel heard, seen, and validated, while also supported in developing a deeper sense of confidence and agency within yourself.
I approach therapy as a collaborative process. While I bring training, structure, and perspective, I hold a deep respect for your inner capacity to heal and grow. Together, we work at a pace that feels safe, guided by your goals and your readiness.
My work is grounded in formal training in mindfulness-based interventions, including MBCT (Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I also draw from a range of evidence-based modalities such as CBT, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy), and DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), allowing me to tailor the process to your unique needs.
